HOW TO WRITE A BOOK REPORT- 1º BACHILLERATO
A good book report describes, analyzes and evaluates. Also, it conveys an opinion about the book.
When writing a book report, there are some poits that you shouldn't miss:
Title
Author
Genre (adventure, psychological drama, romance, science fiction, thriller)
Publisher
Level (elementary, intermediate, advanced)
Brief summary of the plot
Personal opinion
Avoid using adjectives such as ‘interesting’, ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Below you have a list of adjectives/expressions you can use:
ELEMENTARY: amusing, boring, brilliant, enjoyable, exciting, funny, great, romantic, simple.
INTERMEDIATE: dull, entertaining, hilarious, moving, predictable, remarkable, shocking, surprising, tragic, unpredictable, violent.
ADVANCED: a cliffhanger, blackly funny, bland, breathtaking, deeply moving, dull, gripping, hard-hitting, heart warming, noteworthy, outstanding, overwhelming, tear jerker, violence packed
Here are some questions which may help you build up your report:
1 What was the story about?
2 Who were the main characters?
3 Were the characters credible?
4 What did the main characters do in the story?
5 Did the main characters run into any problems? Adventures?
6 Who was your favorite character? Why?
7 Could you relate to any of the characters in the story?
8 Have you ever done or felt some of the things, the characters did?
9 What was your favorite part of the book?
10 Do you have a least favorite part of the book?
11 Would you recommend this book to another person?
Try to be clear, accurate and entertaining.
